About the Author- Lou Sandoval
Growing up in the shadows of the steel mills on the Southside of Chicago, Lou Sandoval had few opportunities to access the water. He was the oldest of four children born to working-class parents and was raised with strong family values, a solid work ethic, and a desire to educate himself and build upon the foundation set forth by his parents. Despite the odds, he considers himself fortunate to have made it out of his neighborhood. Lou firmly believes that his success in navigating life is because of the environment he grew up in. Through his involvement in Scouting, he had access to additional mentors and role models who helped him pursue his passion for science and discover his love for sailing and the water.
Lou's career path has been unique, taking him from working in the Healthcare/biotech industry for FORTUNE 100 companies to owning and operating his own business, and now to the field of technology where he serves as an executive advisor, helping companies digitally transform and scale. He has applied his leadership skills, business acumen, and life skills to accomplish many "firsts" as a Latino in the business and sports world.
Lou's career and life trajectory serve as an inspiration to many young Latinos. His success in business, on boards of companies, in the sport of sailing, in the marine industry, and in the field of technology demonstrates what is possible and why representation matters. His tenacity for life and commitment to paying it forward speaks volumes as he shares his story with the world.
